Galatians 5:3
"So Christ has now truly set us free. Now make sure you stay free, don’t get tied up again in the slavery to the law"
What Paul is referring to as ‘The Law’ doesn’t just mean the 10 Commandments but also the rules and regulations we become trapped in on a day to day basis.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with setting yourself boundaries and establishing what sin is and what isn’t - but when you are solely relying on those rules to be a ‘good Christian’ you’re missing the point.
God doesn’t want us to be these numb, rule-adhering zombies. Whilst He delights in our obedience, He knows that we will eventually fall down - and He says that’s okay! Because rule following isn’t our purpose: our purpose is to realise that God loves us and to love Him back. To love God and others through our actions, our words, our thoughts … through everything. That’s what Christ has given us freedom to do!
